We wanted to wait until the snow had melted to release our spring project update, but since that is taking a bit longer this year, we wanted to publish our spring update now.

This quarter we have updates on the government’s:

  • websites;
  • citizen engagement;
  • open government; and
  • online services.

Websites

Cannabis Yukon

We’ve updated CannabisYukon. The new system includes inventory control and better integration with back-office systems, to improve product information and order accuracy.

Health care professionals talent acquisition website

This will be a website dedicated to attracting suitable candidates looking to apply to health care careers in the Yukon. We’re currently working with our client team on content and development. Our target is to launch the website in 2022.

Indicators of Yukon Gender Equality website

This winter we’ve been rewriting and translating content for these new pages on Yukon.ca. We’ve also added functionality to Yukon.ca so we can migrate the charts and graphs associated with this project. We're finalizing translations and building the charts. We expect to publish these new pages and decommission the old website in the coming weeks.

Migrating or decommissioning our remaining boutique websites and applications

We're continuing to decommission the remaining boutique websites and applications that were not part of the RedDot to Drupal migration. We started with over 360 of these sites and apps in 2021 and we have around 80 to address this year.

Our Clean Future website

The new Our Clean Future website will be 1 of the ways the government will communicate progress on its commitments to reduce negative impacts on the climate. It supports the government’s Our Clean Future Strategy.

We have been working with a vendor and the client team for the research and design stage of this project. We anticipate a launch in summer 2022.

Socio-economic web portal (SEWP) website

We’re transitioning the current Socio-economic web portal (SEWP) website to a new and more modern platform. Most of the development is complete and the team is populating the website with Yukon Bureau of Statistics and Statistics Canada data. The team expects this service to launch in June.

Yukon early learning educators

This new website is for early learning and child care educators in the Yukon. The website will be a central place for educators to go to find out about training and professional development opportunities and access local resources. The project team is testing the website and expect to release it in the coming weeks.

Yukon.ca

This quarter, we’ve continued working on the Phase 9 enhancements to Yukon.ca. We’ve addressed a variety of bug-fixes, to improve the site for public users and for staff. The most recent updates included:

  • addressing missing French translations;
  • addressing formatting issues such as:
    • buttons overlapping text on multistep pages; and
    • HTML code showing on form and document search pages;
  • improving our Blog content type to make translating and subscribing better;
  • improving editing and feedback forms for our staff to have more efficient processes; and
  • addressing issues on mobile.

We’ve also added functionality to Yukon.ca so we can better display charts and graphs. This will let us provide more accessible and engaging data visualizations to users. This update is part of the migration for the Indicators of Yukon Gender Equality website.

Get involved in user research and testing

We usually have a Yukon.ca user research project underway so we can continually learn from your experience and correct any barriers you encounter. If you want to participate, email eservices@yukon.ca.

Yukon immunize website

We’re working to support the redesign and enhancement of the existing Yukon immunize website with the goal of completing this work this summer.

Yukon Water Board website

We’re working to build a new website for the Yukon Water Board. We’ve begun work on this project and are looking to launch it this summer.

Citizen engagement

We’re in the process of wrapping the nRFP evaluation and will be issuing a contract with the selected vendor for the Citizen Engagement platform.

Open government

Open government is a single point of access for all open content the government publishes. It houses open data and open information. Since our last update we’ve:

  • added Privacy Impact Assessment (PIA) summaries in the Access to Information Registry; and
  • begun designing and developing data story functionality to accommodate layout and search requirements for historical budget data.

Online services

We’re working with departments to deliver the following online services. If you follow this blog you’ll see some projects appear and disappear from this list. The reason for this is that:

  • eServices might not have an active role in the project;
  • the project team might not be available to provide an update; or
  • we get to the end of Discovery and based on our findings, decide not to proceed with the work. You can find out more about Discovery in the Digital Service Delivery Guide.

Apply for a sewage disposal system permit

This new service will help people apply online for a permit to install a sewage disposal system. The team have built a prototype and completed an Alpha Service Maturity Assessment. They are aiming to launch the service this summer or fall.

Apply for a Yukon Recreation Advisory Committee (YRAC) grant

This new service to apply for funding is for people who represent a Yukon special recreation group or a Yukon sport governing body. We launched it on March 3 and we’re just finishing up adding the French translation. You can access this it through Yukon.ca.

Authorizing inspections monitoring system (AIMES)

We’re looking to develop a tool for enforcement officers to authorize licences and permits and manage the permit lifecycle. Conservation officers will be able to use it in the field for enforcement, case management and to take legal action. We’re continuing work on the project.

COVID-19 related online services

  • Assess yourself for Coronavirus service. We rebuilt this service to meet the new (January 6) testing strategy.
  • COVID-19 data dashboard. This winter we built this dashboard to provide users with another way to view and interact with COVID-related data. The service launched on February 18 and you can access it through Yukon.ca.
  • Proof of vaccination credential. We’ve been making ongoing improvements to this service. This includes updates to the app, a mobile-friendly format and national-level coordination.

Digital Asset Management cloud service for tourism photographs

We’ve procured a new cloud-based digital asset management tool for tourism photographs. The Department of Tourism and Culture plan to roll it out in phases this year and it will be used by government departments and tourism partners.

Driving and transportation online services

We launched this new service on March 1 as planned. The Renew a vehicle registration is the most popular of these services and it now enables people to download and print their renewed registration. Other services include Request an abstract and there are a number of special permits for commercial carriers. This is the first high-volume service to use a Government of Yukon online service account.

You can access this service from a variety of pages on Yukon.ca, including the Renew a vehicle registration page.

Get funding to train a Yukon resident to work on your film project

This new service is for production companies to apply for funding to train Yukon residents to work on film projects. You will be able to access this service through Yukon.ca soon.

Improve online access to all government services

We’re continuing our work to provide citizens with a single online portal giving them access to the government’s:

  • online services;
  • information about services; and
  • statements of how services share personal information.

Planning for this new service continues. We’re hopeful that the needed legislation will be in place to authorize its launch later on this year.

Legislative drafting and publishing

This winter we developed a drafting tool to convert acts and regulations to the new format on the government’s legislation website. Legislative drafters have started testing the drafting tool. The support vendor is gathering their feedback and addressing bugs or issues they encounter. We expect the drafting tool to be in full use this summer.

Online Marketplace

The Online Marketplace will be an inventory from the government’s suppliers into 1 online storefront where authorized personnel can make purchases.

We’ve got a contract in place with a vendor and we’re starting on the Discovery process.

Professional licensing and regulatory affairs system

This service will enable professionals to apply for their licences online. A list of these professionals will also be visible to the public. The service will roll out in phases, with the first planned for fall 2022. This will include: LPNs, physiotherapists, physiotherapist corporations, registered psychiatric nurses and registered psychiatric nurse corporations.

Report your commercial timber harvest volumes

Earlier this spring we launched this online service where licensees will be able to submit their commercial timber harvest volume reports. You can now access it from Yukon.ca.

Request a health record

This new digital service allows people to request their health records and information. The team has built a prototype and completed a Beta Service Maturity Assessment. It will be tested in the coming weeks with a launch expected this summer.

School bus scheduling and routing (Formerly called Register a child for the school bus)

Parents and guardians will be able to register a child to take a school bus using this online service. We've selected a vendor and we're finalizing the contract and project plan. We anticipate implementation to begin in May, and for the whole system to be ready for the school year’s start in fall 2022.

Service modernization

We’ve begun making short-term improvements to modernize how we manage government forms and other services. This will include internal processes, such as tracking project status and budgets. We’ll also make external-facing updates to how government forms are requested, updated, tracked and completed.

We’ve now met with some of the stakeholders who use government forms. There are many thousands of forms and we’d like to get them online when feasible, and also modernize the work flows associated with forms. Protecting privacy, eliminating redundancy, increasing efficiency and improving accuracy are some of our goals for this work.

Student Financial Assistance

This is a major update to the online system that allows students to apply for financial assistance. We’re working with a vendor to get the new system developed and we plan to continue testing this summer.

Updating the Department of Environment's licensing platform (elicensing)

This spring we released enhancements to the department’s online licensing platform to make it easier for citizens to purchase licences and permits online. You can now get hunting, fishing, camping and outdoor recreation permits and licenses online.

Yukon sustainable tourism dashboard

The Yukon Sustainable Tourism framework includes a set of 17 key tourism elements that the government will measure and report on annually. We’re currently exploring ways to make this data more accessible. We have been working with a vendor and the client team for the research and design stage of this project.
