Apply for an out-of-area transfer to a Yukon Education Authority school

Students may attend a school out of their assigned attendance area if they’re:

  • attending a French Immersion Education program;
  • attending a Catholic Education program;
  • attending a First Nation School Board school; or
  • assigned to a different school because the school in their attendance area is full.

In other cases, after you register your child for school, you may apply to have your child attend a Yukon Education Authority school outside of their regular attendance area.

Criteria to apply for a transfer

  • Your child has a sibling who’s already attending the requested school.
  • The assigned school cannot meet your child’s needs. Provide clear evidence to show that attending another school is necessary to meet your child’s:
    • educational;
    • health;
    • safety; or
    • other needs.

While not required for the process, we recommend you speak with your attendance area school’s teacher and principal about your child’s needs before applying for a transfer.

The Department of Education reviews each application individually. Approval is not guaranteed.
