  1. Things to think about if you want to change your home heating system

    It can be difficult to choose a heating system. Each system has different:

    • fuel costs;
    • efficiencies; and
    • fuel-storage requirements.

      
    If you change your heating system, you may have to:

    • replace an oil tank;
    • rent propane tanks;
    • cut and store firewood; or
    • upgrade your electrical panel, or transmission line.

  2. Cold-climate heat pump

    A cold-climate heat pump can be an efficient way to heat your Yukon home with electric heat.

    Eligibility

    • an air-source heat pump that's ENERGY STAR® certified or 8.2 HSPF or better; or
    • an ground-source heat pump that's ENERGY STAR certified.

    Rebate amount

    • $1,500

    Apply for the rebate

    1. Gather the following documents:
      • approved city or territorial inspection report;
      • itemized receipts with zero-balance owing; and if available
      • itemized invoices noted “paid in full” and initialed by supplier; and
      • ENERGY STAR / CSA / EPA documentation.
    2. Complete and sign the heating systems rebate application.
    3. Submit the rebate package.

  3. Wood and pellet heating systems

    Wood is a traditional and carbon-neutral heating solution in Yukon.

    Eligibility

    Wood or pellet heating systems must:

      
    Maximum particulate matter emission standards must not exceed:

    • 2.5 g/hr for wood stoves, pellet stoves, and fireplace inserts;
    • 0.1 lb/MBtu for wood boilers; 0.15 lb/MBtu if tested using cord wood; or
    • 0.15 lb/MBtu for wood furnaces.

    Rebate amount

    • $800 for wood or pellet furnaces, and boilers (hydronic heaters).
    • $600 for pellet stoves.
    • $300 for wood stoves.

  4. Oil or propane furnaces, boilers and combination systems

    Condensing furnaces and boilers with high-efficiency blower motors or fans can provide substantial savings.

    Eligibility

    Furnaces and boilers must be:

    • ≥ 95% annual fuel utilization efficiency; and
    • ENERGY STAR certified.

    Combination systems must be:
