Apply for funding for studies in health care and social services

The Yukon Health Care and Social Services Bursary supports Yukon students pursuing education programs related to health care and social services, including nursing and medicine.

Students may be considered for funding depending on their area of study, the type of program they're enrolled in, and the anticipated needs within the Yukon’s health care and social services systems.

The number of applicants supported through the program will vary from year to year, based on available funding and eligible applications. Students must re-apply for funding each year.

Students who have already been approved for multi-year funding under prior Yukon health care related bursaries will continue to receive funding as long as they meet the requirements outlined in their award letter.

What funding is available?

In 2025, the bursary awards will be distributed based on the following:

  • In health care or social services: 4 new students will receive up to $5,000 based on their program of study.
  • In nursing: a maximum of 6 new students will be awarded between $2,500 and $5,000 based on their program of study.
  • In medicine: a maximum of 4 new students will be awarded either $5,000 for students in medical school or $7,500 to students in a medical residency program.

When will I hear about my application?

The bursary committee will make its decisions by September 30.

What happens if I receive a bursary?

Successful applicants will be notified in writing and will be required to provide their Social Insurance Number (SIN) to receive the bursary.

What happens if I don’t get a bursary?

You can reapply in any subsequent year.

We keep a priority list from the unsuccessful candidates who meet the bursary program requirements. If a successful candidate decides not to accept, or becomes ineligible for the bursary, we will offer the bursary to the next candidate. This priority list is only valid for the current academic year. Decisions by the bursary committee are final and there is no appeal process.
