Get free legal advice as a victim of intimate partner or sexualized violence

You’re eligible for the program if:

• you live in the Yukon; or
• the violence occurred in the Yukon. 

You can use this program at any time for violence that took place:

• recently; 
• a few weeks or months ago; or
• years or decades ago.

The Independent Legal Advice program is for people of all genders, ages and incomes. You do not need to have reported to the police to access this program. Your case could already be in the courts or over. This program is not time-limited. It starts from the moment that sexualized or intimate partner violence began.

You can apply by:

• filling out the Independent Legal Advice intake form and sending it to Victim Services at [email protected]; or
• asking a trusted service provider to call Victim Services on your behalf.

You’ll hear back about your application in 1 to 2 business days.

After your application is approved:

1. We’ll give you and the lawyer: 
   • a reference number; and
   • each other’s names. 
2. You, or your support worker, will need to call the lawyer to set up a meeting. Note: you’ll have up to 2 free hours to start.
3. We, or your support worker, will follow up with you to check in.
