Apply for a psychologist certificate

A full certificate allows you to:

• work to the full extent of the Yukon's regulations; and
• use the title of
  • psychologist;
  • registered psychologist; and
  • registered doctoral psychologist.

Before you apply, review the eligibility requirements and email [email protected] to request your application package.

You must renew your certificate every year.

Eligibility

You must meet 1 of the following.

Option 1

You:

• hold an equivalent to full registration in another Canadian jurisdiction; and
• are in good standing in that jurisdiction.

Option 2

You:

• have completed the provisional pathway requirements in the Yukon; and
• completed the Examination of Professional Practice in Psychology (EPPP) exam with a minimum passing score of 70 per cent.  

Required documents

Include the following documents in your application:

• Your current government-issued photo ID (not a health care card)
• A copy of your highest psychology degree obtained
• Proof of valid liability insurance for at least $3,000,000 as per section 8 of the Regulation
• Proof of Jurisprudence examination completion
• Proof of Yukon First Nations 101 completion
• A criminal record check issued within the last 3 months

If you’re registered to practice in another jurisdiction, we require:

• certificates of standing from all jurisdictions you're currently and previously licensed in; and
• the regulator to send these documents directly to Professional and Corporate Affairs.

Fees

• Application fee: $50
• Registration fee: $250
• Certificate (licensing) fee: $200 

You may be eligible for a provisional certificate if you:

• are not fully licensed or registered elsewhere;
• recently graduated from a master's or doctorate degree program; and
• have not yet completed a period of supervised and evaluated practice.

Some doctoral-level psychologists may have completed supervised and evaluated practice as part of their post-degree residency.

A provisional certificate allows you to:

• hold a certificate if you have not completed an exam or assessment deemed to be equivalent to the clinical component of the Examination for Professional Practice of Psychology (EPPP);
• work under supervision; and
• use the title of provisional psychologist.

You can renew a provisional certificate twice with a possibility for a 3rd term if approved by the registrar.

Apply to become a provisional psychologist

• Email psychologists @yukon.ca to receive a complete application package.  
• Complete the application and return it to the same email address for processing.
• Use your name as the subject line and attach any documents in a PDF, JPEG or PNG format.  

The Professional and Corporate Affairs branch at the Government of Yukon will process your application.

What to include in your application package

Your application package will come with forms and instructions on how to complete it. When you submit, make sure to include:

• a completed application form;
• an accompanying practice details as requested in the application form;
• a completed supervision plan signed by you and your supervisor(s);
• a copy of your current government-issued ID;
• a copy of your undergraduate and graduate degree transcripts (these can be your own copies);
• proof of valid liability insurance for at least $3,000,000.00 as per section 8 of the Psychologists Regulation;
• a criminal record check dated within the last 3 months; and
• a completed payment information form.

If you’re a registered psychologist from another jurisdiction seeking registration in the Yukon for a specific purpose, you may apply for a 3-month courtesy certificate.

You can obtain 2 courtesy certificates in a licensing year.

Eligibility

You must:

• hold an equivalent to full registration in another Canadian jurisdiction;
• be in good standing in that jurisdiction; and
• have the purpose of your visit approved by the Registrar.  

Required documents

In your application include:

• your current government-issued photo ID (not a health care card);
• proof of valid liability insurance for at least $3,000,000 as per section 8 of the Regulation;
• criminal record check issued within the last 3 months; and
• certificates of standing from all jurisdictions you're currently and previously licensed in.

The regulator must send these documents directly to Professional and Corporate Affairs.
