Extra-territorial business corporations are business corporations created outside Yukon. Under the Business Corporations Act, they must register to do business in Yukon, unless federally incorporated. This is the case no matter how long they plan to do business here.
Bilingual names
If the name is a bilingual name (English and French), you must submit a name reservation for both names.
- Each name must be approved on its own.
- You must pay the $60 in-person or $40 online fee for each name search.
- You will receive 2 name reservation certificates.
On your registration documents you may use both names. You do not need to submit a registration form for each name.
Guidelines for a business name in Yukon
- The minimum length of a name is 5 characters.
- The maximum length of a name is 120 characters.
- The name must have more letters than the total number of other characters in the name.
- Obscene or objectionable names are not allowed.
- Names must not mislead.
- Names must not be identical to another organization's.
Names that need consent
- Names that suggest government affiliation such as Government of Yukon or Yukon First Nation.
- Names that suggest academic or technical affiliation such as university or college.
- Names that suggest teaching of a trade, such as a school, institute or academy.
- Names such as accountant, dentist, engineer, or private investigator.
- Names that suggest regulated financial business.

To obtain a certificate of name reservation, you must submit the following to our office:
- Form 1 ‒ Application for name reservation;
- the $60 fee; or
- Complete the name reservation on the Yukon Corporate Online Registry (YCOR) and pay $40 by credit card.
Follow these steps for registering your business name.
The proposed name has to follow the requirements of the Naming Regulation. If the name does this, we'll issue a certificate of name reservation. This is valid for 90 days.
The process can take up to 5 business days.
The certificate of name reservation is valid for a period of 90 days. Within the 90 days, you can proceed to complete the required documents.
Submit your application by the expiration date on the certificate. If you miss this date, you'll have to:
- resubmit an application for name reservation; and
- pay the $60 in-person or online $40 fee again.
How to fill out the forms
The information you provide on the form must be legible. Also make sure to complete each section.
Statement of registration
Download and complete Form 26 ‒ Statement of registration.
Section 1: Name of extra-territorial corporation
The name must match the name appearing on the certificate of name reservation.
Section 2: Assumed name
Include the assumed name, if any, under which the extra-territorial corporation will conduct business in Yukon. They must also be registered under section 87 of the Partnership and Business Names Act.
Section 3: Home jurisdiction
Include the home jurisdiction of the extra-territorial corporation.
Section 4: Date
Include the date of incorporation, continuation, or amalgamation in home jurisdiction.
Section 5: Registered office
Include the mailing and delivery address for the registered office in home jurisdiction.
“Delivery address” refers to a physical location. Include an address or other description to identify a person’s home or place of business. This does not include a post office box.
“Mailing address” refers to where you send mail. Include a complete mailing address, including the postal code. This address can be a person’s home, place of business or post office box.
Section 6: Previous registration
Indicate whether the extra-territorial corporation was registered in Yukon before.
Section 7: Directors
List the directors of the extra-territorial corporation or the members of its governing body.
Section 8: Name of individual signing
Include your first and last name.
Section 9: Title of individual signing
Include your title.
Section 10: Signature
Include your signature.
Section 11: Date
Include the date you signed the document.
Appointment of attorney for service and alternative attorney
Download and complete Form 27 ‒ Appointment of attorney for service and alternative attorney.
Section 1: Name of extra-territorial corporation
The name must match the name appearing on the certificate of name reservation.
Section 2: Yukon registry number
Only include this if you already have a number. For initial registration, leave this section blank. A number will be assigned to the corporation when your registration is complete.
Section 3: Attorney for service name
Include the following:
- first and last name of your attorney for service;
- address of the attorney for services ‒ this must be in Yukon.
- effective date of appointment.
“Delivery address” refers to a physical location. Include an address or other description to identify a person’s home or place of business. This does not include a post office box.
“Mailing address” refers to where you send mail. Include a complete mailing address, including the postal code. This address can be a person’s home, place of business or post office box.
Section 4: Signature of attorney
Include the signature of attorney and the date they signed.
Section 5: Alternative attorney
If it applies, include all the information listed above for an alternative attorney.
Section 6: Signature of alternative attorney
Include the signature of alternative attorney and the date they signed.
Section 7: Name of individual signing
Include the name of individual signing for the extra-territorial corporation.
Section 8: Title of individual signing
Include the title of individual signing for the extra-territorial corporation.
Section 9: Revoke previous appointments
Sign this section to revoke the appointments of any previous attorneys or alternative attorneys.
Section 10: Date
Include the date you signed.
Appointment of an attorney required
The appointment of an attorney for service is a legislative requirement. This requirement applies to all extra-territorial corporations.
Section 286(6) of the Business Corporations Act requires the delivery address of the attorney for the extra-territorial corporation be an office located in Yukon. This address must be accessible to the public during normal business hours. The attorney for service does not have to hold any legal designation.
Other required documents for your package
Along with form 26 and form 27, you must attach the following documents to your submission:
- certificate of status or compliance from home jurisdiction not more than 2 months old;
- copy of certificate of incorporation, amalgamation or continuance in the home jurisdiction; and
- certificate of name change, if applicable.
Submit your documents and pay your fees
After the form is completed, submit it along with the fee.
The cost for registration of an extra-territorial business corporation is $300.
How to pay
You can pay by:
- cheque;
- credit card;
- cash; or
- debit card.

Provide a cheque in the appropriate amount made out to Government of Yukon.
Credit card
We accept Visa, Master Card and American Express payment at the office. If you send your documents by fax, email or mail, provide a phone number where we can reach you. This is so you can give us your credit card information.

Payment in cash or with a debit card can only be made in person at our office: 307 Black Street, 1st floor
Deliver your documents to us
You can drop off forms at our office or in our secure drop box in the lobby.
When you put your forms in our secure drop box, you can include:
- cash;
- cheque; or
- a payment information form to contact you for credit card payments.

Processing time
After we've accepted and filed all your documents, you'll receive a certificate of registration. The extra-territorial corporation comes into existence on the date shown on the certificate.
The process can take up to 10 business days.
