Apply for a pharmacist licence

An intern or provisional licence allows you to:

• work under supervision; and
• use the title of pharmacist intern.

Eligibility

You must meet all of the following requirements.

• You hold a current pharmacist licence in another Canadian jurisdiction that is equal to an intern licence in the Yukon.
• You’re enrolled in a supervised structured practical training program in this other Canadian jurisdiction.
• The jurisdiction monitoring the training program has approved a licensed Yukon pharmacist to act as your supervisor.
• You’re in good standing in all jurisdictions you’re licensed in.

Complaints or actions against you

If you've had any complaints or disciplinary or criminal action against you:

• we'll assess your eligibility on a case-by-case basis; and
• we may not approve your registration or licensing.

You'll need to provide the following documents with your application. You must provide these in an electronic format such as JPG, PDF or PNG.

All applicants must provide

• Your current government-issued photo ID (not a health care card)
• Your criminal record check – an international criminal record check if applicable
• Proof of enrolment in a supervised structured practical training program
• Proof of a Yukon pharmacist supervisor
• Your verification of registration, sent directly to Professional Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (PLRA) from all jurisdictions currently and previously licensed in

Fees

Registration and annual licence fee: $40

Payment

If we approve your application, we'll email you an invoice for your $40 annual licence fee. Once you receive this invoice, you can pay through the portal.

Apply for a student licence if:

• you’re currently enrolled in an accredited pharmacy program in Canada ;
• you plan to use the title of student pharmacist in the Yukon.

Eligibility

You must meet all of the following requirements.

• You're currently enrolled in an approved pharmacy degree program at a Canadian university.
• The university has approved and will monitor your student practicum in the Yukon.

• Your verification of registration, sent directly to Professional Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (PLRA) from all jurisdictions currently and previously licensed in.

Registration and annual licence fee: $0

Before you apply for a pharmacist licence you must complete the Yukon jurisprudence exam. The passing grade for this exam is 80 per cent.

All pharmacists licensed in the Yukon can apply for the following endorsements.

Injections – intramuscular or subcutaneous

You must submit the following documents when you apply.

• Proof of completing a Canadian Council on Continuing Education in Pharmacy Competency – Mapped Accredited Immunization and Injection Program
• Proof of First Aid
• Proof of CPR

You must provide all your supporting documents in an electronic format such as JPG, PDF or PNG.

Initial Prescribing: Schedule A – Listed minor ailments

No supporting documentation is required.

Initial prescribing: Schedule B – Listed preventable diseases

You must provide proof of completion of travel vaccine course work.

How to add an endorsement with your application

To add an endorsement with your application, go to “Request a licence change” when you're logged into the online portal. You'll find the “Request a special endorsement” button there which will guide you through process.

1. Create a profile. With your profile you'll be able to:
   • login to the portal at any time;
   • upload documents;
   • view your registration information; and
   • apply for a licence
2. Apply for a licence.
   • Follow the steps after you click on "Apply for a licence" under the "Licensing" tab.

Tips

• You do not have to submit an application to create a profile on the portal.
• Prepare your documents ahead of time. Save them first as digital files so that they're ready to upload when you apply.
• You can take a picture of a document with your mobile device to submit it as a digital document.
