Apply for a rural permit

Physicians working in licensed rural dispensaries in the Yukon must:

  • register;
  • hold a Yukon rural permit; and
  • renew their rural permit every year.

Apply using the online portal

Physicians working in licensed rural dispensaries in the Yukon must hold a rural permit. A rural permit allows you to:

  • compound;
  • dispense; and
  • sell medications.

Apply for a permit if you’re planning to:

  • use the title of rural permit holder; and
  • work to the full extent of Yukon regulations.

Eligibility

You must meet all of the following requirements before you apply for a rural permit.

  • You hold a full licence in the Yukon and are in good standing with the Yukon’s registrar of medical practitioners.
  • You've passed the Yukon jurisprudence exam.

Complaints or actions against you

If you’ve had any any complaints, disciplinary or criminal action against you:

  • we'll assess your eligibility on a case-by-case basis; and
  • we may not approve your registration or a permit.

Documents we require

You'll need to provide the following documents with your application. You must provide these in an electronic format such as JPG, PDF or PNG.

All applicants must provide

  • Your current government-issued photo ID (not a health care card)
  • Your criminal record check – this is an international criminal record check if you've lived in a jurisdiction outside Canada within 6 months of applying for this permit or practised pharmacy outside Canada
  • A copy of your current Yukon medical licence

Fees and payment information

Fees

Registration and annual licence fee: $100

Payment

If we approve your application, we'll email you an invoice for your registration and $100 annual permit fee. Once you receive this invoice, you can pay through the portal.

Tips

  • Prepare your documents ahead of time. Save them first as digital files so that they're ready to upload when you apply.
  • You can take a picture of a document with your mobile device to submit it as a digital document.

Before you apply for a rural permit you must complete the Yukon jurisprudence exam. The passing grade for this exam is 80 per cent.

    • Click on “Licensing” and “Apply for a rural permit”.
    • Here you’ll find the step by step process to apply for a permit.
    • Upload all the necessary documents and information we ask you for.
  3. Complete the application form

  4. Submit the form.
