Find types of liquor licences and their fees

Identify what type of liquor licence you're applying for when you fill out your application. 

All licences cost $150 to apply or to transfer and fees are non-refundable. Each licensee must also pay an annual fee in addition to application and transfer fees.

You will use the same liquor licence application for all of the types of liquor licences. 

Food primary licence

  • Food must be prepared and served on the premises.
  • Food and a food menu may be available to your customers.
  • Liquor cannot be served unless you are open for food service and offer a varied selection of food items, including appetizers and main courses or the equivalent.
  • Minors (under 19 years of age) are allowed as customers and may be employed as staff if a parental consent form is completed. 
  • A food primary licensee may allow a person to bring into and consume within their licensed premises a bottle of wine that they did not purchase from the licensee only if:
    • the wine has been commercially produced and bottled; and
    • the manufacturer’s seal on the bottle is not broken or removed.

Liquor primary licence

  • The primary purpose of the business is serving liquor to customers for consumption on the premises.
  • The maximum hours of operation are 14 continuous hours between 9 a.m. and 2 a.m.
  • Minors (under 19) are not allowed as customers or staff.
  • Minors are allowed to enter the premises for limited work purposes like delivering food or performing as an entertainer.
  • Food must be available to customers.

Dual licence

  • Allows a food primary premises to convert into a liquor primary premises later in the day.
  • A separate licence is required for each type of licence.

Mess – beer licence

  • Allows the sale of beer by:
    • an officer commanding a unit of the Canadian Forces, active or reserve, in Yukon;
    • a mining, construction, or other corporation; or
    • a department of the Government of Canada or the Government of the Yukon.

Mess annual fee

  • $40 per year.

Club licence

  • Allows liquor to be sold to club members and their registered guests.
  • The maximum hours of operation are 14 continuous hours ending before 2 a.m.
  • A club licence can be for all kinds of liquor, or beer and wine only.

Liquor manufacturer licence

  • Allows beer, wine or spirits including liqueurs to be manufactured.
  • A separate licence is required for each category of liquor product manufactured.

Liquor manufacturer annual fee

  • $200 per year per product category.

Liquor manufacturer retail licence

  • Allows beer, wine or spirits including liqueurs manufactured by the licensee to be sold to the public.
  • A separate licence is required for each category of liquor product manufactured.

Liquor manufacturer retail annual fee

  • $150 per year per product category. 

Mess – liquor licence

  • Allows liquor to be sold by a unit of the Canadian Forces, active or reserve.

Mess annual fee

  • $40 per year.

Off-premises or 'off-sales'

  • Allows liquor to be sold to the public for consumption off-premises.
  • An off-premises licence is always attached to another main licence. For example, a liquor primary licence.

Off-premises annual fee

  • $150 per year.

Recreation facility licence

  • Allows liquor to be sold to members and their guests participating in recreational activities.

Room service licence

  • Allows liquor to be sold to bona fide guest(s) in their room during the hours approved by the Yukon Liquor Board.

Room service annual fee

  • $15 per year.

RV park licence

  • Allows beer or wine to be sold to bona fide overnight guest(s).
  • May only be issued if the primary purpose of the business is the operation of an RV park.

RV park annual fee

  • $150 per year.

Special licence

  • A special licence can be granted by the board when the business activity does not fall into any of the other licence categories. Examples include banquet rooms and wilderness lodges.

Sports stadium licence

  • Allows beer and cider to be sold by a non-profit organization operating a sports stadium.

Sports stadium annual fee

  • $450 per year.

Train, ship or aircraft licence

  • Allows liquor to be sold on a train, ship or aircraft while transporting passengers from one point to another.

Train, ship or aircraft annual fee

  • $150 per year.
