Apply for a rebate when you buy firewood

You can receive a rebate on the firewood you purchase to heat your home.

Rebate discontinued

This rebate is discontinued as of April 1, 2023.

If you purchased eligible firewood before March 31, 2023, you can apply for the rebate up to 12 months after the original purchase date.

For example, if you purchased eligible firewood on March 31, 2023, you have until March 31, 2024, to apply for the rebate.

Eligibility

You are not eligible if you purchased firewood on or after April 1, 2023. You must have purchased your firewood on or before March 31, 2023.

The firewood purchased must be used to heat a home in the Yukon.

The firewood must be purchased:

  • by an individual (homeowners, tenants or landlords); and
  • from a supplier with a valid Yukon corporate registration.

Rebate amount

You’ll receive $50 for each cord of firewood you purchase. You can apply to receive a rebate for up to a maximum of 10 cords per person over the lifetime of the rebate.

Prepare your application

You must provide an official receipt from your firewood supplier. If you cannot get a receipt, your firewood supplier must complete and sign the proof of delivery form every time they deliver firewood to your home.

If you bought firewood on or after April 1, 2023, you are not eligible for this rebate.

To apply online, you’ll need to:

  • create an account on the Good Energy rebates website; and
  • add details about your home.

Your receipts or proof of delivery form must be dated within 1 year of submitting your rebate application.

  1. Complete and sign the application form.
  2. Attach: 
    • a receipt from your firewood supplier; or
    • the proof of delivery form.

  3. Submit your application to the Energy Branch.
  4. In person: Climate Change and Energy Solutions Centre at 206A Lowe Street, Whitehorse. Our office is open Monday to Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.

Seniors can get additional funding for heating costs

The Pioneer Utility Grant assists Yukon seniors with the cost of heating their homes whether they own or rent. Seniors who are living in social housing or getting a rental subsidy are not eligible for the grant. Heating can be oil, electricity, wood, propane or wood pellets.
